hey guys i picked up a used 17* pump for a song. i was wonderin what all is involved in swapping it into my 96. is there any gaskets or such i will need. also should i hold off if i plan to have it done by T.E. to install it after it is modded? it may be a couple months til i have the $ to have it done and id like to run it like it is if its not too much effort to pull it back out
Thanks, Andy
all you need is the gasket between the pump and the front cover, 2 o-rings for the high pressure oil lines.
if the pump dosent have an IPR alread in it you should probably get new o-rings for it.
the front plate just takes silicone so no need for a gasket there.
the swap is pretty simple just takes a little time.
If it was me I would go ahead and put the pump in now so you can compair the stock 17 degreee to the modded one

what he said!!! ^^^
Send Joey an email and see what it will cost you to get it modded or talk to cody about it. You may be surprised and end up just sending it off now instead of having to pull it later. it will take a couple hours to change it out and since it's your first time i would say 4-5 hours if you have everything there and you take your time to make sure you do it right.

Actually you don't need o-rings for an OBS. They use -an compression fittings. I have reused the gasket before with noproblems, that is depending on how old it is. You can probably swap the pump and put the new gasket on there. Then when you want to mod it you can reuse it since it will not be that old. I have used my gasket for 3 changes so far. It is an o-ring style gasket.
As far as T.E. I would go ahead and have it modded. It is very cheap. You can also ship it in the flat rate box from the post office. Just be sure to pack it well and double bag it in 1-gallon ziploc bags. I had my pump real clean before I sent it and Joey recieved it, disassembled it, cleaned it, modded it and shipped it back out on the same day. His customer service is excellent.
I would not want to swap the HPOP twice just to compare standard to modded 17. I second Neal, Joey is pretty fast. I have the 17 guts in my 15 housing and Joey turned it around in one day.
hmm thanks for the input guys. Im thinking I'll just have it modded before I put it in. the whole two birds one stone thing. i'll probly get around to it in the next week or two. im looking forward to more oil
