My uncle got a 4.2 in pieces on the back of the truck. A 1997 F-150 2wheel, auto. What engines are compatible with the wiring harness and computer?
What would the$$$ be on buying a used 4.6.
Is it a big deal to swap out to an eight and still use the same wiring and stuff.
Not into the computer cars , give me a carb any day.
This is for a friend and you guy's are more up on the new stuff than me.
Help if you can.
Thanks
I hear ya on the carb'd truck but there are only so many dinosaurs and dinosaur lovers around to keep them alive. Long live the dinosaur! My insuranse company gets confused when i tell the the the year of my vehicles,...try renting a car dolly or trailer from U-Haul....Ï'm sorry , did you say the vehicle thät will be towing is a 1977? ....
Any ways back to your question....
the 4.2 and 4.6 are "Modular" engines, so the bell housing pattern is the same , a 4.6 will bolt in. The easy part ends there. Computer and harness are different. Best to find a donnor truck for the swap or look for another 4.2 V6.
My friend has a 4.6 "'97 2wd, I have changed the tranny, most of the wear and tear stuff including a front coil spring. Took me almost 3hrs to change the #4 spark plug and the better part of a day to do the heater core.
They are a good truck to DRIVE, can't say that they're a good truck to work on.
good luck with it!
