thats the tool
the guy at autozone didn't say it'd only work with the slide hammer said try this tool and if that doesn't work then come back for the hammer. i'm new to all of this repair stuff, so it's pretty difficult for me. thanks for your help.

Oh. I understand your frustration. I've tried getting them off without the tool. It sucks. And you risk damaging the spindle. So, please, get the tool..........and it will come off in seconds.

whew!
damn, went and got the slide hammer today, and worked on it for almost an hour before it finally popped loose. so tomorrow i'll take the caliper bracket to a machine shop, and take the spindle to get new bearings too. what would everyone suggest to put on the spindle back to avoid rust like this from building up again? someone said something about anti seize, but are there any brands better than others? thanks.

There's some copper coat stuff that's the best anti-sieze I know of, but it's kinda expensive. I just put some brake grease on mine to keep things from rusting up and binding. Not the best you can get, but it's economical and it seems to work for me.
