How Do I get Better Gas Mileage???

Well i have 99 f-250 standard cab xl. When i bought it came with the regular steel wheels and some really skinny tires. Anyway i got about 17 mpg city and highway combined. I changed the tires this winter to some really agressive ones and my mileage has dropped to 14.5. What can i do to get better mileage? I made my own open air k&n filter. Please helme. Also what kind of progremmer can i buy to make a little faster? The truck is completely stock.

How Do I get Better Gas Mileage??? Quote: Don't drive it.........Just jokin. Anytime you move up bigger in tire size, MPG are going to drop, just nature of the beast and I'm sure you know this. Regular good ole preventitive maintence will help considerably, fuel and oil filters, changing fluids, all your intercooler and spider boots need to be looked at and if old, be changed. Driving at or below 2000 RPM's on the highway are key, anything above that these motors suck some fuel. On takeoffs, just steady pedal action. If theres a light up ahead, power up then coast to the next light till it changes so your not red light racing.

The only way you are going to get your mileage back would be to go back to a smaller tire. You maybe able to sneak 1-2 mpgs with some mods but probably won't get you back to what you were getting. I could be wrong though.
As for tuners, there are several. DP tuner (a FTE favorite), swamps, ower hungry and others. More people will be around to give you some more ideas.

Before the tuner though, you will want a better air intake, guages and exhaust. This will help you harness/control the new power.
