Bought a factory FOB for my 05 F250 Diesel.....went through the key cycling instructions but i dont get any response from the truck. So i talked to a service rep at the stealership and he says that the truck may not have been equipped with keyless entry and that it may not have the module to facilitate it. He was talkin about more than a few hours of labor for the module install and wiring....is this true?..... and secondly, if i buy an aftermarket alarm with doorlock capability and have it installed will it work in my truck?....
Well if your truck truly doesnt have the keyless system, then I would go with an aftermarket alarm system, as it would give you the alarm and the keyless entry you want.
...and the FOB you bought can be resold on ebay......
What made you think your truck did have keyless entry? I bought mine new and it had the push button's on drivers door, but no keyless entry. Told dealer put the keyless entry in and I'll buy....he did. Don't know what they have to do to get it to work, but by the time I got back from my test drive, it was working. Salesman kept locking/unlocking my doors from inside the office. They didn't even need my truck there.
Sounds about right. I was looking at doing this in one of my Mustangs, and not only did I need the black box and all, but also needed to change out the entire chassis harness going to the trunk from the firewall. Forget that! Listen to the rest of the guys, get an aftermarket system. They are more powerful (better range) than OEM, usually can be found with an alarm system package, and are a keck of a lot cheaper and easier to install. Plus, having an alarm system might even drop your insurance slightly.
