Smoke after decelerating?

On my 93 F350 7.3 idi turbo 5 speed, I noticed today that after coming down a long grade in gear (engine braking) and then getting back into the throttle, it puffed out a huge cloud of blue smoke. It only does this after engine braking then hitting the throttle again. Would the CDR do this? Ive gone 600 miles since my last oil change and Ive already burned 3 qts of oil and it barely leaks. Any help?

Just a suggestion, I would pull the outlet off the turbo and see if oil is coming by the seal.

The outlet meaning the side that goes into the manifold? Or the intake?

the outlet is where the downpipe connects to the turbo

oh okay, i will take a look at that. Could the CDR be suspect? Is there a way to clean the CDR?

you can take the CDR off and soak it in gas for a while, sloshing it around every little while. Let it air dry and put it back on. Do not use compressed air to dry it. Regardless of whether or not its causing the problem, its probly a good idea. The CDR tends to get pretty neglected.

I have a 94, 7.3 idi and it started doing the same thing, turned out to be the fuel filter. Just a thought.

Well I cleaned the CDR and it was full of liquid oil as was the tube connecting it to the intake, so hopefully this will help. I will also replace the fuel filter asap.

I also noticed today that right after i start my truck up it puffs blue smoke out around the turbo. Does this point to an oil seal in the turbo? Who sells the seals and are they rebuildable?

Well you have an exhaust leak at the very least there, have you checked or changed your air filter,

Well I definitely have an exhaust leak, the downpipe isnt even connected to the turbo! I dont even see how the dp is supposed to connect to the turbo and I cant seem to jam it in. I also seem to have a full 3" dp and it doesnt seem crushed like the stock one, so maybe its an aftermarket unit. Does anyone have a picture of what connects the turbo to the dp?

Another update: after looking at many pictures of turbos, I figured out that I have the ATS exhaust outlet upgrade and ATS downpipe as it is the slide in type that doesnt use a clamp, only a little metal tab thing attached to the uppipe. I am actually happy about this, because now I dont need a clamp and I have the upgrade already done! However, I am still burning oil, so is there a way to pull apart the turbo and do the seals?

They can be done, but I haven't done it maybe some one who has will chime in.
have you pulled the pipes off to see if there is any oil in the turbine area.
