Welcome to FTE Mike. If the SES light had come on there are codes stored. Do you have any way to have the codes pulled so that you can post them here for us to decipher for you?
From the description it almost sounds like the romps. A couple of things to check, is the engine oil fresh and full? Air and oil filters clean? Is this a first start in the morning issue? How cold is it in the am? Does it do it after the first start warm up of the day?
Welcome to FTE, we are going to need some more info. I.E. mileage, mods, year. What do you mean by it is running up and down. Is the idle just fluctuating or is it when it is going down the road?

K&N is not a preferred filter for our trucks Mike. When was the last time that you changed the engine oil? Did you use the proper type of oil? Our trucks are very dependent on fresh oil of the proper type and up to the right level. The next step will be to make sure that your glow plugs and glow plug relay are all working correctly

I like the motorcraft filters myself Mike. To test the GPR take a meter and check for power on the 2 large posts. One should have power with the key off when you turn the key to the on position the other post should have power. If it dosent chances are your GPR is not working correctly
