Need some Longevity tips

First of all thanks for eveyone who helped with my tranny tips.

This whole tranny thing has got me thinking about my motor.
I have not really done much to it. Changed the HPOP and alternator (whish I new about upgrading the HPOP at the time) and that is about it. I also put the NAPA air filter on it that was recommmended off this site. I had problems finding a real intake for my early 99. I would still like one.
Anyway just trying to put together a list of mods and or upgrades that wil improve the life of my truck. I dont really need anymore power (it is a work truck) I just want it to last as long as possible.
Thanks for any tips.
Joe

you can put an oil bypass filter on it to filter out the extra small stuff. a coolant filter will help keep your water pump from dying on you. you could get an external transmission filter for added filtration......

I've added all kinds of additional filtration to mine, as I believe the cleaner you keep the fluids the more time between failures of those systems.

If anyone is interested in how I did them to my truck, I've written up the installations and have an index on my personal website,

Sorry, there are no pre-packaged kits on my truck, all just made from available parts.

It's simple. Keep it as cool as possible (within the normal operating temps, of course), and keep the fluids fresh & clean. I take a little different approach than Marv, though. I prefer changing the fluids more often to keep them fresh instead of pushing them with extra filtering. I push my engine oil more than 5000, but I verified that I can with an OA. I run all syn fluids, too. I don't know which way is "better", I just go with my gut on this. I don't think you can hurt anything using the extra filtering approach, especially if you log a lot of miles. For me, I don't drive my truck that much to really benefit from extended drain intervals. Some guys go to nearly 20k on their oil -- it would take me two years to make it to 20k, and I refuse to run oil over a year. Just my $0.02, and worth every penny. LOL

Though a different approach, yours is a very sound one, Joe!

And, you're certainly correct about keeping things at the lower end of their normal operating temperature range! That helps a LOT on longevity!

Double-post. Either the site's slow this afternoon with acknowledgements, causing my browser to not realize it got through, or something's slowed-down my browser drastically.

Suppose I could try another site and see what it is....

That's what I suspect. Google and all the other fast benchmarks seem just fine.

X2. Change all your fluids and filters regularly. Not just the common stuff like oil. Fix little things as soon as you notice them before they become big things.

All sounds like good tips. I do drive mine alot. I would say 2-3k a month at least. So maybe some extra filtration might help.
Thanks everyone

My truck only says bad things.
Buy me injectors, buy me tires, buy me prepump, buy me tunes
buy me hpop, buy me turbo.

I try not to listen, but it's hard to resist

Thats funny....

I have found that i dont listen to the radio much since buying this truck. always listening to the engine. i could tell the difference in sound as i got closer to 5k on the oil. changed the oil and filter and she sounded a lot happier.
