I acquired this last fall but haven't had time to work on it till now. It started life out as a Pepsi yard truck / snow plow.
Built 2/88, 124,000 original miles. This is going to replace my Chevy 1 ton as my farm truck. The old girl has been good to me but pulling trailers around hauling 16,000 pound tractors is starting to take its toll on her. I'm keeping her but the L8000 will be used for the heavy lifting.
When I got it the cab had been swapped out and painted all ready.
The interior and other little things needed put back in. Hood needs painted. I didn't think to take any pics as it came to me. But I haven't done much yet.
I had to fix a few small spots on the floor. Covered the floor and part of the doors and the dog house with roll on bed liner. I did this on my 1 ton a few years back and it has worked out great.
Got 1 air ride seat mounted. Door seals are back on
Picked up a complete set of stainless mirrors yesterday at the salvage yard. even have good heated mirrors for $50
Ended up using paint stripper on the hood. It had been painted before and the old paint literally flaked off.
Should have the hood painted in the next couple days. Its in primer now.
Left to do
Build a flat bed
5 in chrome stack
Swap out the drive tires
paint the rims
Fix the electrical gremlins
install the air ride for the cab
mount the goose neck hitch
Talk my buddy out of the matching air ride seats in his shop and put them in.
Head liner and back wall interior panels.
Upgrades for next winter.
Swap out the Dayton hubs for bud hubs
swap out the rear springs for Volvo air ride
you actaully asked if its getting a straight pipe? Of course it is.
As for turning it up, I'm going to drive it first. It all ready smokes some when you hold the brakes and jump on the throttle, Oh wait that was white smoke from the tires
I'm sure it'll sound like the F700 I used to drive, but better with a 5". Sounded really good when the revs got closer to 3k(not on this video). YouTube - nevrenufhp's Channel
Hoods ready for paint
Driver seat, floor mat, doghouse, weatherstripping, stainless heated mirrors all on. Have to wire the mirrors yet.
Redid the grounds on the cab and the dash electrical problem seems to have disappeared.
Been trying to decide what to do with the dash. I have an extra, I think I'm going to strip it down and coat it with bed liner like I did the doghouse. That will cover the flaws and give it some UV protection
well the hoods white. After a fiasco. When I got the truck I got the paint with it. Had to drive all the way up To Warren tu morning to get the hardener. $32 for a quart. Stopped in yesterday morning and the hood was a transparent white, you could still see primer under it. Turns out the paint wasn't any good. Went over today and skuffed it Down and my buddy shot it with urethane. Lets hope the color isn't to far off.
Did you get new weatherstripping for your doors or did you reuse the old stuff? The rubber on my doors is worn out & I haven't been able to find replacements yet. Same with the floor covering. Truck is looking good. Hoping to get mine repainted this summer. Thanks B.Bailey
