I have been reading a lot of posts on this site and I have not found one that offers me a solution to my problem. I have a 2004 F250 4x4 with the 4R100 trans around 110K mi. Truck was driving fine the other day no problems.I came out the next day and started off down the road. The engine revs up to 3,000 to 3500 rpm before it shifts into second. All other gears shift as they should. If I manually shift from first to second it shifts at any rpm, only does this in drive. It did throw a code of P0781.
What I have done so far is replace the solenoid cluster and the rear diff speed sensor......still no luck. Is there anything I need to do to reset the computer or another possible cause. I am hoping there is another option other than rebuilding as money is tight right now. Thanks for any input.
What did the fluid look like when you changed the solenoids? Was it clean and bright red, or dark? As you found out the solenoids are rarely the cause of a P0781 code. Usually that means the intermediate clutch has failed.
The fluid was bright red with no residue in the pan, anything that was in the magnet was very fine and cleaned off with two paper towels, the pan itself looked like it was brand new with no residue. That was why I am thinking it was probably an electrical issue.
