I'm looking to swap a '98 Explorer 5.0L engine into my '91 Ford Bronco. Anyone ever tackled a similar swap. The Explorer I
think has the later GT40P heads, would it not? These would require a different Manifold/ exhaust system? The FI ion the explorer is mass air vs speed density on my truck. Will a swap work? What's the best path to make it work.
Temperature here in NY is around zero and my motors got 2 gallon of water in the oil. Any suggestions appreciated.
I would strip all the accesories off the exp. motor, and use the accesories from your truck, including the efi. it would makemuch easier. as for the heads im not sure.

the explorer *should* have the gt40p heads, as you mentioned. i dont know what the intake on the explorer is, but use your trucks intake and efi, it will give you the lowend power that you need to be able to move a heavy pcikup.
If you use a set of Mac equal length shorty headers, and a set of plug wires with small 90 deg boots they will work. You will also need to make a special plug wrench because sockets wont fit any more. Also make sure u use the explorer plugs. Your truck plugs wont work anymore. Good luck. Hippie.
The 98 engine is also obd2 so in order for it to work you would have to swap all components from the explorer if you want to retain the explorer intake. I suggest like what has been mentioned before. Use the explorer long block abnd your current intake and accessories.
one problem that you might run into, your truck is setup for a single o2 sensor. The OBD2 computer has three or four O2 sensors on the exhaust (one on each manifold, one before and one after the cat). You can probably get around this by using exhaust parts from a '96 5.0L. The '96 is ODB2 and has all of the o2 sensors.
