Have been watching some old shows, Dragnet & 1 Adam 12. Just saw a VW cab over pickup. I'd forgotten they even made those. Basically a " Hippie " van cut off behind the front doors & a bed installed. Dragnet used mainly FORDs, while 1 Adam 12 is Mopar heavy. Adam 12 does have some nice FORDs on there, & a lot of garbage. Once in a while the rare VW or Rambler. Saw 1 BMW on the last one I just watched. Few Mercedes Benzs.
Hey my friend has a 68 Mercury 4 door, except it's green. I also see you have a 67 Parklane with the 410, I have a 66 Parklane with the 410, would love to see pics of your car.

Ford was big on TV show product placement back in the '60's and '70's. "The Streets of San Francisco" was also full of Fords. "Adam 12" used authentic police cars instead. Plymouth usually won the LAPD contract, but AMC Matadors were used for a couple of years. Going back to the 1950's, in "Highway Patrol" Broderick Crawford drove a Buick.
That VW pickup came in both regular and crew cab (extremely rare) models. Remember, there was also a Corvair "rampside" pickup in the early 1960's as well.

Jim
Jim. don't think I ever saw a 4 door VW pickup. Near as I can recall, I never saw that other thing either. Faintly remember the regular 2 door VW pickup ( don't ask me from where, WAY too long ago ).
The funny thing now is when you see a Ford on a TV commercial, it seems like the oval has been blacked out. As if anyone who's anyone can't distinguish car makers emblems.
The next time you see an old episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" you will see nothing but Fords, old and new (for their time). Lots of Comets and Falcons passing by in the background.
Almost to the end of Adam 12 ( season 5 ) & starting to see one or two used for police cars ( actually may have been a Mercury, didn't get that good a look at it ).

I have also seen that! Yeah, if you take that horse off the front grill of a '67 Mustang, the car is now undistinguishable, right!
That silly badge removal business might have to do with the way Ford had been defending their copyright stuff. The maker's of the TV commercial might have to pay royalties to Ford.

I remember some aftermarket parts suppliers got in trouble with FORD. They weren't allowed to make the parts even though they were labeled as aftermarket / non-factory parts. Think they might have been for the original Mustangs, restoration pieces.
