Chassis question

I have a 1979 4x2 f250 with a 460 it is a long bed super cab. I'd like to make my truck into a 4x4 some day. However rather than install a front axle and do mods to the chassis. Would it be easier to find a chassis off a 4x4 and move the cab and bed and exterior body over to it. If it is possible what 4x4 chassis could I use to place the body on and retain a 3/4 ton chassis.

Chassis question

you will need a 77 1/2 -79 F150 F250 or F350 4X4 supecab longbed chassis. there was one on ebay in illinois about a month ago. i did the same thing but started with a regular cab 4X4 and bought a supercab frame and cab. i mention you can use the F150 supercab chassis because the supercab F150 uses the F250 frame and the only parts that are not 3/4 ton are the front and rear axle and the rear driveshaft. when ford came out with the supercab 4X4 they did not tool up for a seperate frame for the F150 and i think it was because they did not anticapate enough sales to support a special platform. if you start with an F150 you can buy axles from a regular cab F250 and have a rear driveshaft made and it will all go together. hawkrod
