Thinking about selling :(

I am thinking about selling my truck to free up a little cash. See sig for details, but it only has 15K on it in a year and a half. Any ideas on what could be a reasonable selling price in KS, NADA retail is $31,500, trade in $27,500.

There's a fine line between asking for valuation of a vehicle and actually selling in the forums (which is not allowed)...this post just crossed that line with the last sentence so I edited it out. If you get some good input and decide on a price, then you should post it in the FTE Classifieds. And you might get a better idea of what people in KS are willing to pay by asking in the KS chapter forum.

Good luck with it...always a bummer to have to contemplate selling your baby...

best you can expect is around $22-23k IMO

the NADA values are high, but you can pick up a brand new F-150 with your options for about $30,000. and get better financing terms.

wish you the best of luck, but I believe you will have a really hard time getting anywhere close to $25,000. Especially at a Dealership. They are going to lowball you at auction prices.

Use the Edmunds tmv calculator for a closer valuation; TMV new car prices, used car pricing, used car values at Edmunds

that thing says a Dealership could sell my Expy for $40,000...which is $2k more than what I paid for the damn thing brand new

Too bad the 2011 models aren't on the lots yet. If Edmunds Trade Values are even remotely close to what I'd actually get, I could totally see myself in a 2011 Expy EL with that badass new 5.0 motor

Looks like you got a good deal when you purchased the Expy.

Asking for valuations is a loaded question as we all pretty much feel our vehicles are worth more than they really are. Very rare to break even after the first year unless one were a Ford employee who took advantage of A plan pricing plus incentives.

Two questions that you must ask yourself:

1. How much do you need to pay it off?

2. How little will you settle for?

I don't need to pay it off as I have the Title in hand, I just need to get some cash to work on some of the projects around the house. Breaking even shouldn't be a problem as it was a year end closeout, and a dealership demo, I.E. I stole it!!!

I just can't decide if it is worth selling or just suck it up and keep driving it forever.

Even, KBB says $28-$30K???

KBB and Nada can say one thing. but if you look at what the brand new models are selling for, your truck would be way overpriced for $28-30k

It's hard to rationalize buying a 2 yr old truck for $28,000...when you can go down the street and buy a brand new truck for just a little bit more, get a better APR, better warranty, and more HP and a 6 speed tranny

I wish you the best of luck if you sell her. Hopefully the right kind of buyer comes along for your price. Vehicles like my Expy retain their value so high because of their limited nature. In 2009, Ford quit production of them for about 6 months, and they drastically scaled back production when it was restarted. On the other hand, the F-150 has been pumped out non-stop. So they are quite plentiful

if you pay sticker price, you are effectively giving the Dealership $3-4,000 of FREE MONEY...at a minimum. Then take all applicable rebates off. That is typically another $3-5,000.

Without even trying, I can usually get at least $6,000 off a vehicle sticker price. It's more of a challenge after that, but you can quite easily skin them for more if you've done your homework. And if you have a X-plan pin...you can get even more $$$ off.

for me personally, I have purchased 3 brand new Fords since 2006. I feel that I got pretty good deals each time for the most part.
2006 F-150 Supercrew FX4 with Luxury Package. Leather and all the goodies
$44,000 sticker, drove off the lot for $32,000 after TT&L
I feel I could easily purchase a 2010 version of my old truck for $30-32k if I weren't in Hawaii. Especially if I waited until the 2011 models hit the lots and the 2010's have been sitting for 3-4 weeks
2008 Expedition EL Limited...LOADED.
$50,000 sticker, drove off the lot for $38,000 after TT&L

2009 Mustang GT Bullitt
$38,000 sticker, drove it off the lot for $27,500 after TT&L

tseekins said it best...and more politically than I can/could. How do you think I felt last year selling my F-150 with a Supercharger/leveling kit and tons of mods for a measely $22k? I remembered paying "full" price for it and wanted the max I could get. But at the end of the day, it just wasn't worth what I wanted.

We get attached. List the truck for Kelly Blue Book (KBB) Price minus about $500 (to show you are "negotiating"). KBB is typically $1-2,000 overpriced anyways. That way someone can come in and hardball you for another $1,000 off.
then you are still going to get roughly what NADA says it's worth, and not feel bad. you both feel you got a good deal and are happy.
