Daytime Running lights

Hey guys,

I got the '91 home a couple days ago. I'm getting things looked over, checked out etc. Charging up the batteries and got it cranking, though slower than I would like at this point. One thing this truck has is daytime running lights. As soon as the key goes to 'on' the headlights come on for safety during the day. I know there will be a relay or control module somewhere, just no clue where.....anyone happen to know? I'd like to disconnect it, at least until I get it going reliably, so that I'm not adding that load to the electrical while trying to get it going.

Thanks!!

I thought you could turn them off.
I hate them anyway daytime lights have always been for funeral processions and emergencys. Now no one gets out of your way in an emergency like they used to.

Should be on the passenger side of the driver side headlight, right behind the radiator if my memory serves me right. It's held in place by 2 or 3 screws on the rad suport.

Little square box (black if original) or grey if been replaced.

Damn things worth 300-400$!

Setting the parking brake shuts off the running day lights, if your park brake still works...

Not sure if I'm brave enough to try that yet. I suspect that I could remove the module on this truck and never have an issue. The guys that I use for safeties etc wouldn't notice whether this truck would/should have daytime running lights though.

Not sure on this but I think any vehicle 1990 and never has to have running day lights.

My '90 F250 came with that from the factory, and the '89 F150 I bought doesn't have it. I know that crap came out on all vehicles in 1990. But not sure if it's a safety inspection thing....

I'll get informed and get back at you. I have a friend of mine who does safetys.

They did when new....but I don't know of anyone that would check that now in a 20 year old vehicle. I suspect that it would be up to the individual doing the safety to see if the vehicle in question requires it or not.

All vehicles doesn't have it, I think it is an option, my 99 doesn't have it and my 95 chevy doesn't either. I can't belive it would be a safety requirement.

Star, it was required by law after a certain date here in Canada. (Two different dates for cars and trucks.) This was on new vehicles, and those being imported into the country.

Ok that is different here, some has it and some don't. I do know the Yukon requires lights all the time, I have had them flash me once when I forgot, but they didn't stop me.

Yeah in the states it's not mendatory but here in Canada it is, it's a damn law here.

You should look up all our laws, you'll find ALOT of nonsense ones like, having working seat belts, working horn, lights, clear not cracked windsheild, all that crap. lol

Live Free or Die....

Writen on every New Hampshire license plate. Know why? Not much safety laws there, no seat belt laws!

In my opinion, it should be like that everywhere! If you wanna risk going through your windsheild in an accident, that's your own problem! But then you need a new windsheild witch sucks..... LOL

One thing I can say, my F250 with the mileage it's got, has a mint condition drivers seat belt, still feels like new. lol

They may not enforce it, but it is nationwide now as far as I know. CLICK IT OR TICKET, it is a big shame the boys in blue can't find anything better to do than stop someone for a seatbelt. My consience wouldn't let me do it, I'm pretty sure I could find good reasons to give tickets to keep the bosses happy.
