This is probably an everyday issue for most but I thought I would get some experienced info. My truck bed/cab do not line up height wise on my crew cab. Is this due to failing cab mounts or some thing else?
cab mounts sagging. replace with oem rubber unless you want to feel every crack in the road and every piece of gravel and every ant you run over. JMHO but energy system bushings are the worst. followed by any other polyurethane busing made.
If you are talking about the body lines mine do not line up either. They are parallel with each other but off by about 3/8 of an inch. Mine has been that way since I bought it in 97 (96 supercab F250) so I don't think it's my mounts. Also my father has a 97 cc F350 and his is the same. His is less noticeable because his is one color where mine is two tone. Also, he has had his since new.
This truck is from salty Iowa and most of the rubber is gone or going. I am going to replace all bushings and mounts. If my cab does not line up with new mounts I am going to try and shim it. I am kind of picky that way.
Do you recommend factory rubber for all bushings etc or just cab mounts? Thanks for the input.
I am running a set of aftermarket rubber mounts on a '97 ford "installed 2 years ago" they are holding up good, I got them from LMC, after piecing the kit together (they don't offer a rubber kit, just a poly kit) it was the same price as the for dealer for the bushings. saved no money and had to wait for shipping.
that is why I buy factory for body mounts, and they ride softer.
as for spring, shackle, pivot, stabilizer, ext. I use MOOG, TRW or Raybestos
Probably your cab mounts getting old. I put in a 3" body lift and it's a little off because of the factory rubber going bad.
I would get OEM replacement rubber bushings for the cab mounts, but if you are going to be doing steering bushings or any suspension parts I'd do polyeurathane.
I'm probably gonna end up getting new cab mounts soon to even mine out.
just thought id pass it along, my mechanic worked for ford for a long time and he told me when i asked him about it that some of our trucks got shims (big metal washers) under the front bed mounts and that some had one and some had two. so that could be something worth looking into. i have just been living with mine and it bugs the heck out of me. now that its warmer im gonna try to fix it. hope that helps!
I know my bed has been off a couple of times because it has the cut out for a gooseneck ball. I am going to replace the cab mounts and see where I am at then. If cab still does not line up I am going to try and add a shims to the rear cab mounts and see if I can get it closer. A local 4x4 shop told me it can be done.

most trucks have shims under the cab mounts, I always save the extras when I do mounts to use on the low ones. you can also get them from ford
