AOD tranny

Hey quick couple of questions for you guys..

I have a 65 M-100 truck im putting an AOD into. I have rebuilt a 351w with gt-40 heads, lunati 61001lk cam, 4 bbl, headers, ect...

I have already purchased a transgo shift kit for the tranny to help improve durability, I will run a large external cooler, however this is a 1984 model tranny with the poorly lube output shaft I believe. Should I be concerned about failure? My motor is making around 325 hp and 400 lbs of torque approximately. The tranny has only 30,000 kms but has been sitting for 10 years. Only other question is what should the pressure be at idle when adjusting the tv cable? Are you supposed to be in gear? Thanks a bunch hoping to get that overdrive going to lower my freeway rpms. Is the AOD a decent tranny for a fairly peppy street truck if some precautions are taken.

Just a FYI its out of a 351w car so it does have the better overdrive band. What are some upgrades that are inexpensive to improve durability.

'88 to '93 are the better ones.

Info here. I'm giving you the link to the TV instructions. Drill down on the right where it says "torque converters" to find Ford TV cable instructions:

TCI® - Instruction Sheet Database

You can look elsewhere on that site for info on what they do to their transmissions, parts, kits etc. Not sure on the output shaft lube deal though....

If you are going to hammer this vehicle, the stock trans will not last.
If you are going to baby it, it will probably last.
In the middle--look into beefing it up a bit, or just plan on replacing it and start looking for a better candidate, specifically an '88-'93 from behind a V8.
