Hey guys,
I've been looking through the threads here and I've found 100's of suggestions for cam selection, but most seem to be for the 302 or even the 460.
I'm looking for a mild upgrade, computer friendly, cam for my 1994 F250 5.8L.
if you don't have maf 35-255-5 comp cam. After much research this is the best option out there right now. Crane had a better one but they are out of businnes right now. it will probably run you $150-$200... Summit racing is just as cheap as everyone else.
I've seen your recommendations in other posts, and I did look up the Comp 35-349-8 previously. Now again, in Summit, it lists it as a 302 cam. I know the firing orders are different, will that affect my ECM?
my bad I keep forgetting the newer trucks are roller cams... guess I need to remember my thoughts tend to roll with the older trucks that i have. thanks for correcting me Conanski!
Ok, maybe to answer my own question............. Back in my Mustang days, I remember the 5.0 HO have the 351 firing order. So if my assumtion is correct, the cam you suggested should be fine.....?! Is this correct?
Conanski,
I installed my new cam (35-349-8)
Entire valve train is stock, otherwise.
After torquing my rockers down I noticed when the lifters are all the way down, the pushrods have play. Do I need longer pushrods?
The motor should not need anything but stock length pushrods with this cam, the lifters have collapsed if you have cycled the engine in this process so some play at the pushrods is normal at this point. You could prime the oil pump with an electric drill(with distributor removed) to pump up the lifters, that should remove all the play from the system.
The engine is still on the stand, haven't put the oil pan on yet. Afraid to put to much together until I figure this out. I did have a Co-worker hold a container of oil under the pickup tube, and primed it until oil was coming from the lifters. It was pushing all the break in lube out so I stopped. The play got better, but I don't think there should be ANY! I can prime it again until the oil goes up the push rid. I guess the loss of lube won't matter at start up if its well primed.
I don't care much for that kit , if you wan't adjustable rockers , i would have the heads machined for screw in studs , the stock set up should work once the lifters are pumped up....Lew
