My buddy has a 2007 F350 RC/LB. Volant Intake, MBRP 4 inch turboback with no cat/muffler, ARP headstuds, EGR delete, Boost/EGT/Tranny temp guages, 33/12.50 BFG KM2's. Next month he is going to be participating in a sledpull for the first time with his truck. Are there any tips anyone can give? What gear to pull in? Just leave it in drive? 4lo? 4hi? Tow/Haul?
Yupp I pull with mine and have a blast. I pull in 4hi and put it in 1st manually. 4low does not have enough wheel speed IMO. I bring the boost up on the brake as high as I can get it and let off the brake and too the floof it goes. I pull in the 8500# work stock diesel class. 282.0 ft is my best pull to date (300 is a full pull)
Would anyone reccomend pulling with a tuner? He is going to be getting an SCT with Innovative diesel tunes within a couple months.
They actually have custom tunes specifically for the sled puller. I don't know what all is exactly involved in that specific programming, but I do seem to recall that they had those available for that application.
I pull with the xtreme drag/sled pull tune. Just tell your friend this.......EXPECT to break something..... I have not broken anything yet, but just go into it knowing good and well that its a possibility.... If he is not able mechanically/financially to make repairs DO NOT DO IT.
Guy last year with a BRAND NEW 09 harley truck twisted the rear diff. on the axle tubes (pointing the pinion straight up towards bottom of bed) and of course snapped the driveshaft like a candy cane. He was 200 miles from home with 3 kids with him. I see kids out there pulling in there only transportation and break something all too hell and have no way to get it home, no money etc....Not smart.
Suprisingly enough, I leave the line with all 4 spinning wide open. I have tried leaving the soft and easy method but ran out of momentum too fast.
Oh hes not worried about breaking anything. His brother would tow it home with his 2009 F250 CC/LB. And for an 18 year old, hes doing well enough to fix anything.
