Got a 92 f250 2wd diesel. After backing into driveway I noticed the front wheels look kinda like this / \ but after moving truck forward they're pretty straight to more like \ / anyone got any thoughts on what I should look into. Thanks
Its actually normal or an inherent condition in the IFS/TTB front axle setup, the toe setting and the characteristics of the independent swing arms, its pivot point, create that effect. Should only be a minor differences, aged or weaker spring rates as well as excessive toe setting can compound it to extremes though.
When you go forward the toe "in" setting forces the two wheels toward each other tilting the tire out at the top as a result.
Backing up the toe has the opposite effect, causes the tires to try and move away from each other causing the tire to lean in at the top as a result.
Well found the problem. The left (dr side) axle pivot mounting bracket is busted. Anyone know if the spring has to be removed to replace it?
Yea that will increase the effects!
No you won't have to remove the spring, taking all the weight off the wheel will be enough.
Set in on stands allowing the wheel to just touch the ground at full hang, then if you want use a small bottle jack under the inboard end of the swing arm for full control.
Thanks for the replies. Not removing the spring is a relief now alls I have to do is find a bracket. Can't seem to locate one online guess I'll have to call a few stealers in the a.m..
Never thought of that I'll have to take closer look at it and see if thats possible. Thanks danr1 I'll let you know how it turns out one way or another.
Well got around to workin on the truck today. I got the bracket off (both pieces) without to much trouble. Looks like its been broken for a while. Anyway called a few stealers and a few bone yards with no luck to get another bracket. So with the biggest ball pean I have I proceeded to hammer it back into shape. Fired up the welder and put the bracket back together. I must say it came out lookin a lot better then when I started. Slid it back in and to my surprise all the holes lined up. Had to replace one of the bolts that apparently snapped. Took it for a test drive heard a loud pop. I thought the bracket let loose but no alls good. Must have been something poping back where it was suppose to be. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions much appreciated .
