transfer case

So, I just picked up a 71 ford f100 4x4 with a manual np435 trans with a married Dana 21 and the Dana 21 T-case was completely snapped in half, I really just want to get it back on the road, so I was wondering which Transfer case is a plug n play? I heard about the so claimed indestructible np205, but will the 205 bolt right up with no modifications? need help ha thanks

The only one that's a direct bolt on is the D21. The D20 from the early Bronco is the same case but with low range, and will bolt up but is longer so you'll have to modify the driveshafts and you will need the linkage from the D20.
I have to ask- How do you break a D21? They are a quite strong cast iron case, and can handle a fair amount of power.

Nice to know, I just bought the truck and it was in need of a transfer case. I have no clue, all I know is half of it is there and the other half is in back of the truck ha

Not impressed with the Dana 21 myself. I just broke the output shaft on mine towing a small trailer with a couple of motorcycles. Let the clutch out to start from a stoplight and "pop!" sheared the output shaft. Its tied to a 435 and a 390. Looking to swap it out for a 205, sound like its do-able but you need the later 435 gearbox to go with it.
