Glow plug controller??

I've notice the last couple of mornings when I turn my switch on the WTS light comes on then immediatly goes out and the controller starts clicking. I turn it back off and try it again and it works normal and also works fine the rest of the day. Think it could be the controller? It never did it till I did the pump and injectors. The only cause I can think of is I took the controller loose cause I was having a hard time getting the return line hooked up near it but I just took the bolts out and moved. Didn't take anything loose.

Hmm, well don't know if this is your problem, but with my '87 the wts light was only on about a second, and I could hear it clicking after that. Just changed all the glow plugs yesterday and it completely fixed it. Now its on over 10 seconds. They say you gotta use the Motorcraft ZD9 brand.

Sounds more like a connection problem. The grounds are critical on these, clean them real good, and make sure all conections are up to snuff. Lots of members have run a direct ground to the battery.

Caution do not run the white wire to the battery this is the trigger wire even though it is a ground. I was talking about the case ground.

Mine did the same thing after sitting for several months. I recycled the glow plugs and it worked fine after that. I figured that the relay on the controller may have stuck, but it could have been a ground issue.

well if you but injectors in and return line kit check all the connection to your glow plugs cuz if one glow plug is down, the whole system will not cycle ive had this happen several times. but it could be grounds like star said but from what ive read i would check the conections to glow plugs first one might just be unplugged

I am thinking you have a bad connection somewhere in the glow plug system.

Start and the battery and work towards the glow plug relay, take every connection apart and clean it.

Fast guess to the location of your problem, the chassis to engine harness connector near the dip stick.
The two large AWG wires in one end of the plug are the glow plug power wires.

The first time you try to heat the glow plugs, you are generating heat which causes the connector to swell.
Second time you try the glow plugs, the heated connector is making better contact, so they work right.
