I have a set of Jesse James Lawless 8 lugs, while i was on deployment they started to corrode eating somewhat through the chrome finish. Any ideas on restoring them, or is it possible to powder coat parts without leaving ridges where I left the chrome exposed?
A good chrome shop will grind down the corrosion and fill the pits before starting the chroming process. If they do not, you will have pitted chrome and more issues with the chrome peeling and pitting further.
Same with powder coating. You have to start with a smooth surface to get a good finish.
The usual process is to grind out the damage, then fill with welding material and grind, file and sand until smooth. Once that is done, then the finish of your choice can be applied (chrome or powder coating).
