I plan to change my 49 to 12 volts. I have read all of the great threads on what needs to be changed. However, I have not been able to come up with an alternator bracket for a flathead 6. If anyone has a 6 cyl with an alternator setup, I would appreciate some insight on how it was mounted.
I haven't done this yet, but I have been thinking about it. I think this place has the mounts/brackets that we would need (under their universal mounts... I haven't called them, but maybe they actually have one for the 6):
Also, I think some tractor supply places might have the appropriate brackets as the 226 was used in a lot of tractors. But, I too would appreciate anyone who's actually done the conversion letting us know how they did it.
I have a couple of pictures of a 226/254 engine I had with an alternator adapted to it. The pictures were not taken specifically to show the alternator bracket, but will show you what was done. eMail me and I will send you the pictures via email. Bob(rswhitmore@yahoo.com)
The previous owner had an alternator setup on the engine of my truck. Attached is a picture I took of that side of the engine. It's not too easy to see the installation but basically all he did was bolt together a couple of pieces of flat metal bars to hold the alternator in place. Doesn't look great but it worked.
