Customer brought truck into the shop. 2001 Powerstroke 7.3 manual. Said he had his truck plugged in and someone got water on the outlet and shorted the outlet. Later went to start his truck and it turns over fine but wont start. No WTS light and SES light is on. Hooked up my scan tool, and says communication error. All fuses are good inside cab and under hood. PCM relay is good. Diode is good. 30amp fuse is good. Tach jumps while cranking on it also. Can ya'll point me in the right direction, im a diesel tech but more of a dmax/cummins tech and dont mess with these too much. TIA!
you sure all fuses are good? something similar to this happened to me and it turned out to be the fuel bowl heater, so you have to unplug the heater and put a new fuse in (i cant remember which one it is) but its in the book and its located inside the cab. just a thought.
well i did unplug the heater but i didnt change the fuse, but its still good. I went over every fuse twice with my multi meter. and the owner doesnt have an owners manual for the truck. do you know of any diagrams i can find online or on here ? thanks
check connection of the 42 pin wiring harness at the firewall, and the 9 pin connection over the drivers valve cover.
The block heater is in no way connected to any of the engine electronics. It is a heater element with a cord. If he had GFCI breakers on his house they would have tripped with the water on the plug. Worst case scenario the plug or the cord melts.
