What is it ??
I have a 2002 F250 5.4. In real cold weather it makes a little rattle for about 15 sec, when first stared cold. Is this the same or is this due to cold oil?
Enjoy all the info on this site !!
Thanks Jim.
some people have it ,and it last alittle longer !
sometimes 2 mins.
Its always at cold engine start up ,no matter what your outside temps are !
What is it ? the pistons used in our gas engines
are of short skirt type (Forged aluminum),used in a 90* block of castiron . when the pistons are cool there is more clearance between the bore of the cylinder to the side of the piston.
This all changes when the engine warms up.
This is basically the non technical explanation !
We could get into more technical discussion on how the 90* angle of the block adds to this
But I think you understand !
If not I'm sure the rest of the guys can fill in
Right now I have to go be back later
