53 F100 Voltage

I need to get a battery on a 53 F100 v8 and I was wondering if it was a 6 volt or 12 volt system. Is there any way to check or were they all 12 volts?

Thanks

Your 53 started life as 6 volts. To find out what it is now you need to look at the generator and coil and see what voltage they have stamped on them. Also the voltage reg.

I couldn't find any stamps on the generator and the voltage regulator was too worn too read. I took a couple pictures though. Can anyone help identify if its a 6 volt or 12 volt system by looking at the generator?

I can get a picture of the regulator too if that helps

Two simple things will give it away. Take a look at the battery that's in there. If it has 3 holes with caps, it is 6 volt. If it has 6 holes with caps, it is 12 volt.

Also, if your GROUND cable is run off the POSITIVE (+) battery post, it is a Positive Ground system and is 98% sure to be 6 volt. If the GROUND cable runs off the NEGATIVE (-) post of the battery, it is most likely 12 volt.

The other end of the GROUND cable will bolt directly to the frame of the truck or to the engine block.
