Just purchased a used 02 Explorer w/24000 miles, I noticed a whistle noise on the interstate around 65 to 70, sounds like a vaccum whistle. No, it is not the antenna or the wind comming over the body. The engine runs fine through all rpm ranges, it does not act as if it has a vaccum line off, ( smooth idle ). Since I have paid more attention to the sound of the vehicle, I have noticed the whistle durring other acceleration situations, 25 to 35 mph, moderate acceleration on a slight uphill grade through 3rd gear, the pitch of the whistle changes with a change in accelerator position. Any comments would be appreciated, I have not yet asked the dealer about the issue. I have to take it back to have the drivers mirror assy replaced, the light lens cover was missing, can't believe they had to order a whole new mirror assy to replace a .50 lens cover!!
Yeah, that sounds about right. They don't sell the smaller parts separately. That is pretty much the same thing with the headlights. You can't just buy the lens. One day they will probably say that they can't sell you the mirror assembly. You will have to buy the entire door. Then it will be the vehicle!
Anyway, I will find out this evening. I have my 97 Explorer 4.0 OHV in for a couple of things for the 30 day warranty on it and one of the complaints I had was a whistle. If it is gone I will let you know and I am going to ask them what was causing it if they figured it out.
