Still looking for a little help. When truck gets to 1/4 tank (5gal) of gas when coming to a stop engine goes to low idle and wants to stall. Is totally fine otherwise. Once tank is filled symptom goes away. I am leaning to in tank baffle as it appears to only happen when gas is low and sloshing forward. Tank is a 20 gal plastic tank. Can anyone shed light on the baffle inside these tanks. My mechanic says this can be a bitch due to locking tabs on ring on top (??) thoughts ?
Thanks
When this stall problem is trying to happen, does the in dash "Check Gauge" light come on????
If so maybe the fuel level sensor, or float is off & is fibbing about the true fuel level in the tank & it's really lower than you think.
If you have to change the fuel pump, rather than dropping the tank, it's said to be easier to unfasten the fuel fill hose, unfasten the tail light wiring harness, pull the bed bolts & slide the bed back, with the front resting on the rear tires & the tail gate end on saw horses.
No engine light and I have run it through 3 cycles, meaning once symptom starts I immediately fill up to see how much gas it takes. 3 times between 14-15 gallons meaning it is happening at same point. A friend who used to own a shop says it sounds like a pin hole in pick up tube of fuel pump just below that level and when gas sloshes it sucks air for a minute. Does this sound plausible?
