Im new here so bare with me.I want to move shocks to outside frame in rear, is this a real problem? also put fuel tank under frame where spare tire went. thanx keith
You might want to look at a 73-79 chassis. Everything is swappable with the gas tank between the rails already, plus it will have power disc brakes and steering.
The 73-79 chassis is 4 in longer (all under the bed) cab & front clip are bolt hole exchange.
for the gas tank look at this article. it is for a 53 but it still works for the 67-72 trucks. many ppl here have done this but it does put the filler in the bed unless you can get a little creative and move the filler to the side of the tank. for the shocks i take it you are thinking of the newer f-150's. dont know what rear end you have. but the 67-72 are not wide enough to do so. the shock will hit the tire (they did on my mock up i did) the 73-79 axles are wider then the 67-72. you might try one of those. you will need to move the spring hanger on the axle and more the shock hanger on the frame to the out side. (i dont know if it will interfere with your tire or not).
on a side note: if you have a 2x you can transfer the whole i-beam/spindle and rad bar assemble from a 73-79. as well you will need the p-valve and power booster and master cylinder. ( your steering will not meed to be modified to do this swap it is a direct bolt up swap.)
if a 4x4 you just need to get the spindles off the same size axle most people use the chevy's because you can do the high steer kit and they are stronger then the ford's model.
I havnt looked at prices yet but what about a fuel cell???
How much is the mustang tank vs fuel cell???
I want to do the same thing but I'm not even close to that point on my truck. I'm still straitening out my cab
fuel cell's are almost twice as much as a new mustang tank. and in most states fuel cells are illegal as well. here is a web site that has all diferent makes and models of stock tanks. as well as the measurements of them.
