fuel filter question for updated filter

i purchased a fuel filter kit for my 6.4l motorcraft of coarse. changed this filter at 20000 miles and both filters in the kit looked as did original. at 40000 miles purchased kit and lower filter has an o ring seal at the the bottom. i know it is an updated design, but has anybody had problems installing. put new filter in cap and proceeded to install, tighted cap up, but flange would not sit flush to housing like when the original designed filter was installed. put old filter in just till i find out if this is normal, did not want to over tighten. sure would be nice if they gave you a little more room to work.

I just did fuel filters on mine and no o-ring there. There is an o-ring that is suppose to go on the cap.

Each filter has an o-ring that replaces the old one on the cap.

the new filter came with an oring for the cap, but the new filter has an extended flange with an oring on the bottom which extends the filter length.

Just installed the updated one on my 6.0 and had no problem getting the cap to seat fully. Got another 1K miles before the 6.4 needs oil and fuel changes.

filters will be different than the 6.0 I think. Could it be that they are mixed up?

the 6.0 uses a differt filter kit fd4604 the 6.4l used a fd4609 filter kit there is an updated filter for the hfcm module filter that has an extended flange with an oring on it, has anyone had a problem installing the updated filter, mainly does the cap flange meet flush with the housing with the updated filter, mine did not, but it did with the old style filter.

I am NOT a ford diesel tech, but I installed the updated filters in my truck last Wednesday with no problem. The cap fully seated and all was well.

Senix, the updated primary filters for the 6.4 do indeed have an o-ring at the base of the filters. This o-ring wasn't on the one I pulled out.

Cheezit announced this on the 6.4 forum a few months ago:
