18-20" wheel size question

I posted this question in the tire section but haven't gotten any response and figured there will be folks here that know the answer to my question.

What are the differences between the two, other than 2" inches? Do the 20" wear longer since they won't rotate as many times per mile? Is the a handling difference? There doesn't appear to have a payload difference between the two. So I'm just confused in this area. Thanks in advance for helping clean this up in my mind.

the rim size has nothing to do with how many rotations the tire will make. if you put the same size(hight wise)tire on each rim they will make the same amount of rotations.

It all depends on the tires you put on the rims. How tall, wide, load rating etc.

Don't know the answer to this. I'll try to find out what tires Ford ships their different size rims with.

Found it 275/70R18E vs. 275/65R20E

The 275/70/18 is 1 inch smaller in diameter than the 275/65/20 which will not make a huge differance in ride or handling. If it comes from the factory with the 18 or 20 which ever one it has the truck will be set up for that size. As for the load rating even if they are both E -rated depending on what brand of tire it could actually have a differant amount of weight that it can handle. For example one E-rated tire may be at 3200 lbs where another brand could be at 3800 lbs.

Does the tire size affect the GVWR? I"m looking at two 350's, one is a cc/lb with 20" tires and a gvwr of 11,500#. The other is a cc/sb with 18" tires and a gvwr of 10,000#. What is the driver of the gvwr?

I am not sure but i think the differance has to do with one being a LWB and the other SWB.

Well, for some reason, I could not get the camper package with the 20" tire and wheel package. Not sure if it was a weight thing or just Ford being difficult.

You have to get the actual measurements for each brands tires because they are all different. I was looking at some different tires Nito vs general vs BFG's they all measured different even though they were the same sizes.

The GVWR is year/model dependant. The F350 with 10k GVWR is either older than an '05 (major rating changes started in '05) or someone ordered it with the 10k rating for insurance/licensing reasons. Most F350 SRW from '05 on are rated 11,200-11,600, depending on tires/body style/powertrain.

Mid 11's is what I thought too but then ran across an '08 cc/sb 18" tires with a gvwr of only 10,000#. I was somewhat shocked and then realized I don't have any idea why the rating would drift around like that.

My 2008

Has 20" wheels, and the top of the bed side rails is 55 1/2 " high..I measured 2 other F-250's w/17" wheels and bed rail height was the same, found the sidewalls on the 17's were 1 1/2" bigger, per side, making their height the same as the 20's...It was a surprise to me..
