1981 Ford F250

Hey everyone i have a 1981 Ford F250 4 wheel drive that we are redoing and i have a couple of questions.

First off how do you tell if a rear axle is out of line? Some say it runs down the road crooked and i was wondering how you checked to see if it was lined up corrrectly.

Second off, did the 1981s front right tire stick out futher then the left front? If you stand at the front of the truck you can easily see that the right front tire sticks out futher then the left front and i was just wondering if it was designed that way or if it was a problem.

From all these questions, sounds like you have a truck that was involved in a accident. The best way to check the frame for squareness is find a common hole or point on each side front and rear, and then measure in a x pattern. For example, measure from the center of the u-bolt on the passenger side rear, to the center of the balljoint on the driver's side front axle. If the tranny is in the way drop back a little bit and find a common hole in the frame that is on each side.

When you find a spot to measure from the pass side rear to the driver's side front, write that measurement down and then measure the same points only measure from the driver's side rear to the pass side front. The measurements should be close to the same, I am going to throw out they should be less than a 1/4" difference.

You could also take it to a alignment shop and get them to check it.

Thanks man and sorry for not getting back sooner! We were able to line every thing back up correctly. And yes it was in a wreck, it was my dads first truck and its been in the family just with a different member since the 90s and we just got it back and are redoing it Thanks again!
