Slight miss only in gear when stopped
Slight miss only in gear when stopped
This miss in my truck is quite odd. It's a 99 F150 5.4L 2wd.
You start up the truck for the first time of the day and it runs fine besides some annoying squeaking belt or something. You drive on the highway for like 45 minutes still nothing out of the ordinary. I can stop somewhere go inside for 20-30 minutes, come back out start up the truck put in gear and the miss begins. You can feel it and see the tach slightly jump with each miss. Drive it around about 10 minutes and the miss quits. Doesn't do it under load drives as normal just when you stop at a light or stop sign etc. I've noticed if you get on the hi-way and give er a little WOT come next stop the miss is gone. I'm thinkin some kind of sensor?
Also plugs were changed a couple years ago but I don't put too many miles on the truck, I just drive when I need to haul stuff. Also fuel filter changed around same time but it was a cheap autozone filter. I also have a K&N filter. I got some electrical cleaner and sprayed on the MAF sensor and put back in a paper filter made no difference miss wise.

The OP to this thread hasn’t been around since 2010. So, I’m not betting he’ll come back with an answer.
That aside, knowing nothing about your truck, I could suggest anything from replacing the ignition coils to pulling a compression check as to not condemn the whole engine.

How many miles? Does it smoke at all? Sounds a bit like bad valve seals. Hot oil leaks past while stopped, a plug or two fouls then clears up.
I had an old sports car that idled smooth right after a WOT pull, but was missy when driven normally. Never actually confirmed why though. But it was a high miles engine.
