Muffler Delete for 2002 7.3L Excursion?
I want to replace the muffler with a Stainless Muffler Delete pipe, to free the engine up, and improve the sound a bit.
What models fit?
Is the Muffler Delete Pipe for the Excursion the same as the one for the 7.3L F250 (F350?) PowerStoke? I've heard that it is different, but unable to confirm.
How much is involved to replace it? The Ex's muffler has a hanger bracket welded to it.
Thank you in advance.
Hi Ross!
Strongly recommend you take your vehicle to one of the big "chain" exhaust shops for advice. Depending on the state and county you are in, what you are contemplating may be illegal. Here's why - what you call "improve the sound a bit", well, others might call "N O I S E". Some people like to make noise. Others think it is a safety hazzard.
In some jurisdictions, doing what you are contemplating is a VERY serious offense.
Muffler shops can lose their licenses, and maybe even jail time, and in the case of the vehicle they altered, it can be impounded on the spot, can only be towed, and then cannot again be operated until it is returned to "stock" condition.
If your stock vehicle dosn't make enough N O I S E to meet your personal needs, here's an idea. Your "stock" electrical system includes an alternator that can produce around 100 amps. That is MORE than enough to drive a VERY serious stereo system with super big speakers.
Have a VERY serious stereo system installed, with super big speakers, and then you can play tapes or discs of whatever N O I S E you feel people for hundreds of yards around you, will then think of you as "cool"......
( I mean..well, it IS so important to be "noticed"...isnt it...? )

Well. that was one of the funniest (who did this to me?) if not the stupidest responses on a forum I've ever heard.
Sir, If I wanted your opinion I would have voted for you. Please respond only on the gay Excursion truck driver forums from now on (sorry to insult any Gay Ex drivers by associating this liberal monkey with you) !
Now get back in your boyfriend's Tundra, and quit responding to MEN on THIS forum!
As sarcastic as his post was, 6686L is actually correct. In some states, cities, and/or jurisdictions is it illegal for your truck to make that much noise. If that is the case in your area, head down to napa and get yourself a Walker BTM and have it welded or clamped in; it gives a nice throaty, manly sound while keeping you legal.
However, if you live in The Great State of Texas like I do, it's not only commonplace for diesel trucks to be loud, but straight piped trucks are welcomed as the turbo somehow counts as a muffler.
Thanks, Tom

I have that system on both my Ex 7.3 and F350 6.0 with their straight through mufflers.
Neither are excessively loud. But they do sound nicer. The 6.0 is really sweet at wot as you cruise down the road.
They both seem to get a little throatier as they get some miles on them.
But you won't hear either in the cab any more than stock.
I really like the systems MBRP have. You can hear them on their site and on YouTube.
As far as mileage improvements? I get 11 around town and 17.5 at 70 on the interstate with the 7.3. I get 15 around town with the 6.0 but it has a set of lumber racks on it and that does make a difference. They make a huge amount of turbulance that does effect mileage. I do not know the hiway mileage for the 6.0. It does not get a vacation like the Excursion does.
I have to guess that these figures are not much different than a stock system.
Inkertinker; if I am correct please send me a PM, thanks!
