351m carb issues

351m carb issues
i have a 78 f150 with a 351m 2bbl it has true dual glass packs recently put on it
the day before i put the exhaust on i noticed it was ....backfiring sort of... thru the carb. well spitting and sputtering.... it ran well before this started and now that it started once the truck warms up completely it stops spitting and sputtering one of the local mechanics round here said it sounds like a sensor has gone bad ... oh yeah a cloud of white smoke pours from the ehaust when first started and it smells rich as heck but after started no smoke that i see , anyway i have never heard of a sensor for the carb in a 78 but then again what do i know lol anyway how do i fix it ...cause im ready to just buy me a edelbrock 4bbl and edelbrock intake and putting on it and being done with it lol
