my question is this i have a 1977 f-250 highboy that i am looking to put a set of 38s or bigger not to sure just as of yet. i am looking for a tire that is good in the mud when i want to play around but i can still drive on the road most of the time. i love the look of super swampers and if i can find a set cheap i would like to put them on and see what they are like but i have looked at a lot of tires and i am undecided what to do. I am looking for your input what do you have on your truck how are they in the mud and then on the road how is the wear on them will i need to replace them after 20000 miles or will they last any input would be great thanks
check out military surplus humvee tires, they are like 16.5 rim size, 37 inches tall, and 12.5 inches wide... you can find them for under $500 for four with 75% treadlife or more and they are pretty nice tires. They come in a few tread patterns depending on what they are, sum look like groun hawgs and some like bfg mud terrains.
Contact "100DollarMan" over on Pirate 4x4.com, he has killer deals on military tires that have been "timed out" but often have upwards of 90% tread left.
yeah I was just looking at some ads over there. here is one that shows both the tread patterns I was talking about. the first one is the "MTR" one that looks more like a mud terrain, the second one, the 36's are the ones that look a big like ground hawgs. I guess they are bias ply... so for street use you will prolly want the 37's if you stick with surplus.
