I'm working with a '92 f150, straight six with 270,000 miles -- engines on the last legs, leaks and cooks oil -- NO overheating, coolant mixing etc. Rides rough 1-3 and 4th gear is smooth.
I've also got a '77 f250 that is sitting on what i believe to be a 77 f350 frame but might be a f250 -- the bed doesn't quite bolt correctly but the PO may have just found the three hitch longer bed and bolted it on -- the rear gas tank was removed and the left side was reinforced with C channel -- the right side wouldn't permit due to exhasut headers, etc. placement.
Bottom line, i am in need of making a working truck. I have an engine hoist. My first instinct was to rebuild the 4.9L straight 6 but i do not believe that it has ever been serviced.
Putting the FE 360 into the f150 would require changing the entire drive line -- so i'm thinking about performing a cab swap. The 92 is legal and current -- the 77 has bad vin/plates.
Anyone's two cents or opinion would be greatly appreciated.
As far as I know, you couldn't put a '92 cab on a '70s frame... I don't think they really match up at all. Swapping the '77 engine into the '92 is probably the way to go, since it's at least possible.
