Hello all, long time lurker due to the tons of good info here
I have a early '99 SCSB F-250 (build date of 5/98) with aprox. 138k on it that I bought back in November. The dealer didnt really know much about it, and I couldn't get an OASIS report as the system was down that day.
The engine compartment looked surprisingly clean for a '99 so I suspected it had a reman put in recently. After crawling under the truck and peering upwards towards the side of the block I spied a silver tag with the ford script that said "Remanufactured". I couldn't make out much of the tag, but it appears that the engine was put in at the dealer by Ford to the best of my knowledge.
Some questions,
Would this reman have PI heads?
Would I have any special considerations when buying a tuner (custom tunes etc.)
Any known issues with reman engines from Ford?
Also, the bottom of the transmission pan has a bright orange sticker on it stating something about a 4R100 exchange program, and the TSB it that pertains to it. Anyone that could shed some light on that would be greatly appreciated.
its amazing that their system was down the day you looked at this truck. a truck that seems to have a ton of dealer repairs. sorry i cant help you with your questions.
Only one that I might be able to help with is, i read on this site the other day that the PI heads have PI cast into them, but it did not say where on them. I am sure some one will chime in on this soon though.

I was kinda surprised it was down as well. I went back in the next week to see if the OASIS report was available then. I went straight to a service writer who tried to pull it up, and it didn't work for him either(some sort of 404 not found error, or something like that). He could look up repairs done at their dealership only, but nothing with the engine or transmission showed on his report (according to him anyways).

This happens shortly after some change in production. If anything goes wrong with one of the transmissions that has a certain change within a certain amount of time Ford wants the trans back for analysis. All the TSB tells the dealer that if one of those transmissions has an issue to call Ford and a new trans will be sent to replace that one. Ford doesn't want the dealer to open the trans, they want it back at Engineering to analyze it. The TSB is usually good for no more than a year from when the trans was manufactured. After that it is treated like any other transmission.

thats interesting.i've never heard of that. how many units do they mark?
The heads will have PI cast into the exhaust port side... It can be seen if you peak in behind the front wheels through the wheel well opening. I can't recall exactly what it says, but I think it is a "PI" prefix in the part number?
