1940 ford p.u. bed question
Also the cab is sandblasted and bare/primed. But is bolted down. I have been thinking about the bed, which I do not have. And it seems like nice ones are few and far between. So I came up with a idea. why not build one out of new sheetmetal. I know the sides will be smooth without the indention like the real ones. But thats ok. Lucky me my uncle has a sheetmetal shop, with a brake and shear. Although he does not build truck beds. I am sure I can talk him into it. Thats what nice uncles are for. But before I start. I need one main thing. The size of the bed. Like the inside floor length and width. The total height of the sides and from the floor inside up. without the top angle. What I will do about the top bedside angle is get the width and angle of it. Then bend it. For the rounded top,I figured I would get some pipe the same size as the orginal and weld and smooth it out so it will be hard to tell its pipe not a round bend. Sorry for this being so long. But by chance does any of you know any of the measurements ? It sure would be he helpful. I was thinking they made a 6ft and a 8 ft bed. This is a little 1/2 ton so I rather it bed the shorter one. Like 6ft. O I forgot, I can get the side stakes from Bob Drake I think. It might not be totally correct, but it will look good. It will never be a orginal anyway. Very few are now days.
THANKS GUYS !
I saw their beds at a car show last fall and can say that they seem to be very well built. They also sell pretty much all the pieces as well. Dennis Carpenter might have some stuff as well and check MAC's to.
Beware of the parts from Macks Trucks.
One guy told me his floor was not square and the stakepocket I bought had several deviations from the originals and Mack told a fancy story when I asked about it
What is your definition of 'good'?
Some folks will only accept perfect, good as new.
Some guys can fix anything

It has the inner fender and the small brace
I have no need for it but
It has a huge dent in the top
that speaks to me
The dent says, "You can fix this.
You know you can.
You WANT to fix this dent."
but I am busy doing other things.
I need to put this fender some place it will stop begging me to fix it.
Because if I fix it then what?
I dont have a car for it.
it sure would be fun to fix that dent and paint it purty so that no one would ever know it had been damaged

I'm guessing you want perfect, so buy a new bed from Macks Products.
Your statement about your phone number is offensive.
I asked where you were because it matters. If you live in New York City, yes you will not find a bed, but if you are in Texas, its too easy.
Ever heard of Pate?
Thank you Dave.
does anyone have an assembly manual or instructions, pics on how to install the wood bed?
have a one ton, 8 ft bed, wider than normal 1/2 ton.
thanks,
