Automatic choke problems. HAALP!! :-fire
I got the truck from him in Sept. 02' and it needs some minor work. But the truck only has 90,000 original km's on it, and is still a very tight truck. When the cold snap hit the first part of January, I discovered why he had put a hand choke on the truck. It seemed to work ok, but had a bad habit of backfiring up thru the carb once in a while. One of these unfortunate times, I discovered several things. One thing being that the filter for the pcv valve in the side of the air breather was gone. This is where the flame escaped the air breather, and caught a small puddle of oil on fire that was laying on the dome.
In my haste to put it out I unscrewed the wing nut holding the cover on, and ripped off... well ATTEMPTED to rip off the whole air breather outfit so i could douse the flame with a cloth, since I had no fire extinguisher. It was then I had discovered the extent to which my fathers cobbling had reached. He had drilled a hole in the side of the air breather, punched a hole in the filter, and routed the choke cable THROUGH it. ( YES.. THROUGH the air FILTER
) and when I tried to take it off, it wouldnt budge, which in turn tore off vacuum lines, etc. I have been running the truck ( when I can get it to go ) for the past several weeks with no choke, and half the vacuum lines either scorched or unhooked, and I have no idea how the vacuum lines are routed. Is there someone out there with a diagram to show the routing of the hoses and stuff on this carb? and maybe someone with some insight as to what I can do with the choke. By the way, I also noticed that somewhere along the line, the choke brake has also disappeared.
HAALLPP!!! Lost in New Brunswick Canada...
Hope this helps
