Difficult starting problem

I have a 95 F-150 inline 6 with EFI. The problem I have seems to be getting worse, but it has taken a long time (over a year) to get to the stage it is at. When I go to start it, in about 30%-40% of the cases, the engine will brefily fire(about 1 second), then die. After that I have to step on the accelator and pump to get it started which takes about a total of 15 seconds using several cranks. If I wait after the first inital start to try again, then it seems to have less of a problem getting going. The cap, rotor, plugs and wires are new and OEM. I was thinking the Idler Air Control Valve, but There are several things it could be and I do not want to just replace and see what works.

Any help would be Great!!

Difficult starting problem

I don't know that i will be of much help to you, but I am having the same problem with my 91 F150 V8. Is yours only in severly cold weather (b/c that's my problem)? Only mine has gotten progressively worse where most of the time I cant get it to idle at all and must agressively switch it into gear and stomp on the accelerator to get to work in the morning. it also emits quite a bit of white smoke out of the exhaust, and sometimes jerks during acceleration after i get it going. is that your same problem? ive been told any number of things from checking my intake gaskets, which are fine, to cleaning the IAC system, to cleaning the fuel injectors, to replacing the distributer cap. however i took it to my mechanic and they cant figure out what the heck is going on. hopefully that at least gives you somewhere to start..
