I have a 1993 F150 2wd pickup that I just recently bought with 145,000 miles. I noticed when I bought the truck that the passenger side power window was a little noisy so I figured it was going to go out soon... Well it has gone out and did it when it was down and now it's been raining the past 3 days here and I have it taped up. I am wanting to order a new motor today but not sure which brand to go with. I know there is A1 Cardone brand which runs at about $40 and then another aftermarket about the same price and then the Motorcraft for about $90 or more. My question for you guys is how well do the aftermarket ones work? Does the aftermarket harness that comes on the motors plug right into factory ones or do they need to be rewired? I do not want to cut any factory harness up so prefer one that will hook up and bolt in without any modifications.
I know that sometimes the more expensive is better and then I have seen some aftermarket parts that were almost just as good as the stock stuff and half the price.
Thanks in advance for any info!
Is the motor dead or does it sound like it's moving but just clicks or does nothing?
If the motor is dead then you'll need a new motor. If you want one that lasted as long as the original did, then get it from the same place. If you want to save a few bucks then don't expect it to last as long.
If the motor runs but the window doesn't move then you need a gear repair kit. I also buy these from Ford. When you take apart the motor there are some plastic gears inside that disintegrate over time. The rebuild kit replaces the gears.
Good question, I will have to check it later today and see. I think it's dead but I could be wrong. I know that before it was noisy and a bit weak so I believe it's dead. I will have to double check it though and get back to you. Can I buy these gear kits online from Rock Auto or somewhere like that?
Thanks for the info!
