Want to replace my clutch and want a detailed write up. Can someone steer me in the right direction? Also I see a lot of things on Val air and Luk clutches on FTE. Has anyone heard of Ram clutches? Local shop in Charleston,SC recomends them. I pull a 35' horse trailer and want a clutch that will hold up with no problems. With horses in trailer, the weight is at the recommended maximum for my year truck. Thx.
I put the valair in my truck and my horse trailer puts me way over the limit for my truck in the owners manual. I haven't had any problems at all.
It is noisy taking off if I lug it but other than that I really like it.
I agree with the Valair. I tow 15,000 lbs or more at times with my 250 SRW and have no problems. These trucks will tow well over the "recommended" capacity. Others on here tow over 20,000 lbs or more regularly.
I have not heard of Ram, Sorry. But I would go with Valair again for sure. They know what they are doing, just give them a call and talk with them. They also make more clutches than they advertise on their website so if you don't see what you want just ask them. They will even do custom jobs.
My father in law put a ram in his work truck because someone told him it would last longer. He had to get some woman to drive it for a while and she tore it out in a month. Did that three times I think before he started driving again.
I got my truck farm tagged so I'm legal up to 38000 pounds now. I do it too. I weigh right at that with a 50 foot hay trailer sometimes. Normally though it's carrying a 16000 pound horse trailer and 2900 pound slide in camper. That valair clutch is the least of my worries. I wish someone would make higher rated 16 inch tires!!! I have the heaviest rated michelins I can get on it now.

I am currently looking for heavy rated tires for my 5er. What type of Michelins are you running? I am looking at the Michelin XPS Ribs (LT 235 / 85R 16). They are expensive but should hold up well. Anyone have any other options or suggestions?
I wouldn't get the XPS tires unless you plan on recapping them. They are good for that several times. Cost way too much for a one time use though. Rough as you can imagine also.
I got the new M&S tire in 265/75 16. It's supposedly reformulated rubber designed to save energy (fuel) and it rides about the nicest of any of the street tires I've used. Plus we live on a farm and it's really good off road and on the ice snow and mud. I wouldn't go running down the river bottoms with it but when I have to get across the pastures in the rain I don't worry at all.
It's rated for 3400 pounds I think. It's about the highest we can get without going up to a 33 inch tire which I do not want. I like the 20 mpg I get with these a lot.
If you get these tires, or any other really and have a discount tire near you, then look up the price on tire racks site before you go buy them. Tire rack was about 800 bucks for 4. Discount tire was 1150 for 4 but they met the price without question and even threw in mounting balancing and the heavy duty valve stems. All I paid a little more for, like 50 bucks more, was lifetime rotation and balancing. I'll get my moneys worth out of that since I do it every 5000 miles.
Ya know it's very hard for any shop to impress me because I think most of them are idiots and I wouldn't let them work on my kids wagon. Discount tire here did impress me and I let them know. They torqued my wheels right, filled up the tires right without being told, they actually looked at the door sticker. They did everything right.
For years I had been buying tires, swapping them by hand myself here then carrying them somewhere to use a balance machine and putting them on myself just because I had no faith in tire shops. That's changed a bit now. I don't know if they are all that good but the discount tire here sure was.
Discounts Tire Warranty is my biggest deal. Free fix a flats, and if you get road damage, they replace it. So many reasons to use them over Bell or many of the other chains.
