I've just purchased a 1988 / F350 4X4, manual trans, w/460engine. I want to flush the entire cooling system but I have learned than there is no drain plug in the block. Is there a way to do this without draining and filling the system time after time after time after time? The existing fluid still looks like pond scum having drained it 3 times already, before adding any cooling flush. I really want to get her flushed out good before I put in fresh antifreeze. Can you all recommend a real good flush that won't be harmful if I don't get it all out of the system in short order?
^ Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I have used the Prestone flush chemical before on my old 85 Firebird and it worked great. I recently flushed my system on my F150, but I used a different chemical. I was draining and filling like no tomorrow to get all the crap out.
You can remove the upper radiator hose from the rad & start it up & let the water pump , pump everthing out tell is clean , put a hose in the rad to keep it full of water ....Lew
I like the prestone flush too. The kit makes the process a lot easier. Dump it in and drive it around for 50 miles, I think it says.
A lot of the garbage in the system collects in the radiator. I would remove it entirely from the vehicle, take off both hoses, and flush it out both ways with a garden hose. Then do the same with the block. If you get the prestone kit you can flush it out via one of the heater hoses too. Inspect the hoses for cracking and wear and replace if necessary.
