im doin the u-joints on my truck this weekend. any tips for me? i bought the greasables. im thinking of doing the center support bearing too while the driveshaft is off. its looking kinda ratty. how hard are the new joints to get in? my dad says rent a ball joint press? also going to change out both differential fluids. man that mobile 1 LS 75-140 is expensive! 17bux a quart!!! thanks in advance!
Mark the drive shaft position on the transfer case, rear end, and where the center sections come together at the carrier bearing!!!!! Make sure it goes back in the same location, these big long drive shafts are picky for balance, even if you do that you still might have to have it rebalanced, just the nature of the beast.
Just did the rear ujoint on my '06. My slip joint at the center bearing..... I marked it really well, then when I disassembled it it was skip splined so there was only one way to put it back together.... somebody was looking out for us backyard mechanics.
The pressing in and out required a hefty hydraulic press, I couldn't do it with an arbor press....
that video made it look too easy! how come my axles are all rusty and those are nice and new!! lol...thanks for the post. i didnt realize that the slip yoke is set balanced! glad i didnt do it tonite..stinking ground was too saugy. i couldnt get in the garage. so saturday itll be!! thanks again!
