i have a 302 w some mods including a crane cam .498, .498 w/278 duration part # 130092 and magnum roller tip comp cams rocker arms 1.6 ratio. i am ? by the adjustment, it said something about 1/4-1/2 past zero lash. then rotate motor 1/3 or 2/3 rocker arm rotation before adjusting the exhaust i thought you would adjust both @ tdc. is motor is for a 67 mustang that will see more street than track but it is my toy and i play hard!!! any advice ?

The idea is to put the lifters onto the cam's base circle, or when the valve is closed, to make the adjustment. This can be done at a number of positions, but just make sure that the valve is closed when you do the adjustment. The adjustment requires you to tighten the nut to take up all slack in the valve train, and then turn it another 1/2-3/4 turn. Since not all valves can be closed at one time, once you adjust all the rockers that have closed valves, you turn the engine enough to close all (or as many) of the previously opened valves, and adjust the rockers on those. Repeat until all the rockers are adjusted.
For a stock or near stock cam, each engine has two or three positions where certain valves can be adjusted. For a cam such as yours, however, I would recommend that you do it carefully as xlt says, make sure it is on the heel of the cam for adjustment.
I would suggest that you go to the Comp Cams website and download their catalog. There is a section in their catalog that gives a VERY good and detailed procedure for accomplishing this.
