I have a really bad vibration and grinding noise coming from my front end. It only happens when I hit a bump in the road with the hubs unlocked, and will usually stop temporarily, but always comes back if I'm driving with hubs unlocked.
However, when the hubs are locked there's no noise and it drives as smooth as
can be. I believe it's a set of bearings somewhere in the assembly but have no idea which ones. Could anyone give me a name or part number for the bearings I need, and will Advanced Auto Parts carry them? Thanks in advance!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. My 99 drove me crazy starting at 17K with issues of hubs, axels, rotors. Yes when you do lock the hubs the vibration stops. Some dealers took back trucks with this problem as I heard it was a quiet type recall? Anyhow what happens as you drive especially after a bump is the hub is trying to engage the axel spline and actually strips the spline off the axel. My axels, hubs and rotors where changed by Ford 3 times. The last time I had to drive with one axel engaged for 3 months while Ford reengineered new parts. I sold that piece of c--p at 90K after the 4th replacement with Ford eating long after warranty 70% of the cost. That tells you right there they knew of the problem! Good Luck?
