power combo for towing?

Sold a little piece of property. so I've got some PMS money coming

remember I'm heavy, truck is 11K by itself, trailer is 15,500. Oh did I mention Mama wants a new house so now the trailer will be 17k. 28K total weight.

current setup is 02 F550 4x4 6spd w 2spd, 4.88 gears. AFE tymar filter, 5"cannon, Adrenaline HPOP, hutch/harpoon mods, PHP live tunes, turbomaster, BD exhaust brake

It pulls great and with the 2spd I can keep the RPMs 19-2600 all day long. Bills got the tunes so dialed in I can't get the EGT's over 900 even pulling a long hill.
I'd like a little more hill climbing power. thought I'd go 38R, coated exhaust, uppipes, injectors, intercooler, reg return.

Talking to one of the injector builders today and they hinted that I might be wasting my money because with the weight I roll, I can't used Big power all the time. They seemed to suggest just a small set of singles and be done with it.
is the turbo and stuff a waste without really big injectors?
Should I just save the money and buy Wild Turkey instead?

Barney, I wish I could be of some real help for you but I'm not up to speed on all that.
A big Banks sticker in the rear window and a few bottles of Turkey would be a lot cheaper.

New House new Truck. Big Time PMS. Barney I did like the 175/146 singles I had, there are are few on here that use them and do a lot of hauling.

Haha Eddie I like your thinking on the truck there. Wish I had the knowledge for you also Barney but I am just a stupid pencil pusher from MN. Congrats on the windfall and good luck spending.

That should be mod #1

I would talk to Bill 1st and for most Barney. He will be the one that will have to dial in what ever you do decide to go with so he may have some recommendations as to what to do or what not to do.

I think that the 38R would be a great place to start it will push more air and that should, in theory, help to lower your EGT's even more. With stock injectors you will not be using it to its full potential, I have one and am running singles and am more than happy with the result. The truck pulls like not tomorrow and I don't have any oil mods other than the HPX.

I can see up pipes and regulated return, but if you're maxing out at 900 deg EGT, what do you stand to gain with a better intercooler? I could understand some mild singles, and a turbo upgrade might help move the compressor stall line with the heavier trailer to avoid any surge issues. I think asking Bill's advice would be a great idea. Not too many heavily modded 550's rolling around to gain experience from.

I plan on talking to Bill when he gets back from Utah.
I thought I would need the better intercooler to help keeps the temps inline after the bigger sticks

Eddie, the new "house" still has wheels!!!

I would say go with some stage 1 sticks, 38R, 6.0 IC and water injection.

My reasons behind this...

I think you will really benefit from the additional fueling as well as fuel mileage gains with stage one's..

You will see about a 100 degree gain (My experience) with more fuel in the cylinder.. The 6.0 IC is going to cancel that out at all RPM and boost levels. The big advantage of the 6.0 is a huge reduction in the turbo lag. I was very impressed with this. I would be happy to show you via video or at RRE this year.

38R is what I would go with if I had the cash. I like my van turbo/ww combo but it is a bit smoking at times. If you wanna know more send me a PM.

Also, I think going w/ a 1.15 exhaust housing would really help w/ EGT control on long hills and i'm guessing a slight EGT drop.

I tow 4-5 times a week with my truck around 22k-26k gross and my truck get's 70k a year. It's a work truck so I hope I can pass on some of the info I've picked up.

I would look into a cooling mist water injection kit. This would come in handy all the time to keep it cool. They can customize anything you can dream up.

The one thing I have been looking into and I saw this on PSN. It would be a water injection kit that will run a smaller nozzle to maintain a certain EGT level and when you exceed it a second larger nozzle hits. Basically a two stage injection kit. Take a look at coolingmist.. they IMHO rock.

I don't know what other mods you got but an on-board air system w/ air bags on the back would be rather nice. I am going to add this as well. I think it would help a ton..

Good luck man!

Thanks guys.
yeh I'm thinking Stage 1's and a 38R. Not sure about the intercooler. we'll see

can't run a 1.15 housing. the exhaust brake bolts up to the turbo housing in place of EBPV. so 1.0 housing is it.
not sure I'm comfortable with water injection

Andrew, silly boy, this is a 550 we're talking about. I don't need no stinking air bags! I fact I took 2 leaves OUT of the rear spring pack so it would ride level WITH the trailer hooked up. I do have onboard air though. It runs my air ride seats!

Thanks
Barney

Someone is singing my song!

Barney, you won't be disappointed with AC's and a 38R. It's a very nice, mild combo that kicks azz.
