I recently purchased a 92 ford aerostar it runs great. The transmission is supposedly rebuilt but when u put it in drive it doesn't move. Reverse works fine. I was wondering if this was a torque converter problem or if transmission was rebuilt wrong.I've also heard that if torque converter was bad u wouldn't be able to move at all. Can someone help me.Thanks
If the TC is bad, it won't go in any gear. The common cause of no forward, but have reverse is the clutch pack gizzards being worn out. Or the center support doesn't and thusly doesn't flow apply pressure. Reverse has way higher pressure than the forward gears, so it seems to last longer.
If you have no fwd and no reverse and it is making funny noises, or new noises anyway, you may have spun the splines on the input shaft, or may have fragged the OD planetary, or lost the TC. If the engine doesn't load at all, then no power is getting thru to the trans internals...

What is the cluth pack qizzard is this something inside the trans. Also, did you leave something out about the center support because that sentence seemed like it was missing something. Thanks
The clutch pack 'gizzards' are the steel plates and clutch plates that are placed in the clutch drum. They are squished together by oil pressure, and are allowed to slide against one another when the pressure is relieved. They wear out when they are allowed to slip. They get hot, and throw away the friction coating on the clutch, and then end up steel to steel, and slip.
The center support *supports* the other internal parts of the transmission. It is made of aluminum, and will wear quicker than the other parts around it, mostly made of steel. When it stops 'supporting' the transmission will also stop working because oil flow within the support goes to the wrong place... and no longer applies clutches as it is supposed to, and they get hot as noted above, and fail.
By now, you already know this and have spent lots of money.
If the splines are gone, then all that metal went somewhere. Make sure you change the filter, clean the pan and at least flush out the cooler (if you have one) or replace it.
